Festivals

With so many different ethnics groups and religions represented in Malaysia we as the people of the country celebrate different festivals in a year. For example, the chinese community just celebrate Chinese New Year. The chinese practice a kind of culture by giving the non-married red packet.

There's a story behind the red packet or also known as "ang pao". It is during the Sung Dynasty in China. In a village called Chang-Chieu was at that time terrorised by a huge demon-like dragon. No one in the village dare to challenge or to fight the demon-like dragon because of its violence towards the villagers. One day, an young orphan armed with a sacred sabre inherited from his ancestor fought the demon-like dragon and he manage to destroy the dragon. Eventually the villagers wanted to thank him for his bravery and boldness to stand up and fight against the dragon and the overjoyed villagers and elders presented him with a red packet filled with money for his courage.

Animal rights ( Part 2 )

There is a group, they named themselves Sea Shepherd. They consist of volunteers from around the world to go against Japanese whaling fleet. They are a good example of people who stand up for animal rights by protesting and stopping Japanese from whaling. Whaling is an inhuman act that cannot be tolerated. The Sea Shepherd is part of the late Steve Irwin's dream to go against whaling ships.

The captain of Sea Shepherd is Paul Watson. Farley Mowat quoted that Captain Paul Watson is the world's most aggressive, most determined, most active and most effective defender of wildlife. As for me I also support the actions taken by him (Captain Paul Watson). He go against Japanese whaling fleet and his men would do anything to stop them from whaling. Recently a crew went on board of a Japanese whaling ship Shonan Maru 2 and he is now locked up on board the ship because he violated a law for trespassing.

Here is a picture of the crew of Sea Shepherd going against a whaling ship. The crew w
ill do anything to stop them.

As for me I can say that I'm an animal lover and I really love dogs. I have a brother named Muffin. He is a Yorkshire terrier. Here is few pictures of him.

Animal rights.

Animal rights is also referred as animal liberation. In Malaysia the government does not ensure that the animals as priorities like other first world country like the United States or Europe. Animal and humans also have rights. The idea of awarding rights to animal has the full support from scholars such as Alan Dersherwitz and Laurence Tribe of Harvard Law School. Animal law is taught 113 out of 180 law schools in the United States and that proves that animal have special rights in this world. In my own perception I think that animals should have a special rights and if someone were to abuse an animal they should be punished according to the country's law.

In June 2008, Spain became the first country to introduce an animal rights resolutions. The reason behind the animal rights resolutions stood up because of a parliamentary committee voted for a non-human / primates to have their own rights and the idea is inspired by Peter Singer's Great Ape Project.

In the picture on the left shows that protester are standing up for animal rights.

Racial Harmony. (Part 2)

Now more about myself towards racial harmony. From what I think about racial harmony, the government should abolish the bumiputra because that's causing a racial argument between races. They tend to fight for rights. If the government wants to have Malaysia unite as one they should have every race as important as the nation. In my perspective of thinking, One Malaysia will not happen if there is a rank for races. Malays shouldn't put as priorities first where else all the races should be put ad priorities first then comes the foreigners.

Recently there have been arson attacks on churches not one or two but 10. This just can't be tolerated by Christians yet Christians forgive. In my perspective the religious or sacred places shouldn't be burned or vandalize. Its a place for people to pray. All this acts just cause a stir between races and sometimes fights between each other. The last brutal racial fight was in May 13 1969 after an election. It was after an election on May 12 1969 and Chinese opposition parties won bigger than expected and they started a parade that angered the Malays. On May 13 1969 some UMNO leaders organized retaliate parades and that's when riot started. Then comes folk stories parang (a long knive) killing, massive raping, fire burning and some one sided massacre on Chinese in Kuala Lumpur and the followed a nationwide curfew.

Some of these scene had traumatize citizen of Malaysia including both the races who got into a blood spilling fight. Hundreds of people will killed during May 13 1969. It was a day marked in the Malaysian history.

In my opinion the government should let protester protest on what they think is right and not just banning people from getting permits to protest. Citizen of Malaysia still have the rights to voice out and tell their opinion and not just letting one to stick to the rules and not being happy about it.

Racial Harmony. (Part 1)

About Malaysia, after celebrating our 50 years of independence from the British. It shows how Malaysia conquer and defend the nation. Thanks to Tunku Abdul Rahman our first prime minister that got the nation their independence day. The nation consist of Malay, Chinese and Indian fought together and stood up for their own rights to earn the independence against the British.

People in Malaysia do organize a lot of concerts, film festivals, publication launches, ceremonies and exhibits to show the country's success in cultivating racial harmony and financial stability. As of today, many of the races are becoming one to form one Malaysia. The combination of Chinese, Malays and Indians in Malaysia makes us unique to have a multi-racial community. Not a lot of countries around the world have more than 2 races as a nation and that makes us unite to be one. We have a different culture in Malaysia for example Chinese New Year is around the corner and one of the Chinese's culture is to have a lion dance at one's house to chase the evil spirits away. One of the few other cultures is to give red packets also known as "Ang Pau" which contains money in it will be given to those who is not married. The other one is Chap Goh Mei where the females of the chinese community throws orange into the sea to get a life partner.

About College Life!!

What's up people.

Firstly I'll introduce myself. My name is Samson. Just call me Sam.

College life!! hmm..
Well how much time do you guys have. Back then when I was doing Graphic Design in The One Academy in sunway college was totally different from Taylor's, from the people to the lecturers. The people from One Academy was fun yet we're just packed with assignments due in a week. From 8 figure drawings to 12 and the due date is in a weeks time.
Since I started working as a part timer in Starbucks I developed interest in meeting new people everyday and talking to them. So I choose mass comm as the course I want to major in. Well, college life is really fun but I really do prefer high school at times. I met lots of friends in college. We get along well together maybe cause mass comm students are just friendly. During our break we'll go and eat lunch and play pool together.

Sometimes during class we will annoy the lecturer by talking. I just guess it is part of college life. Our mischievousness will lead to "disaster" if you get what I mean. We get lectured or get scoldings from lecturer but we take it easily and don't have any hard feelings. I'm starting to get to know my classmates more and more because friendship helps in a lot of stuffs.

Going through the process of adapting to college life is quite tough. I'll have to be independent. Its totally different than high school because I need to do my own research and get my own notes. Where else in high school the teachers in school will do it for me.

Off,
Sam.
